News and reminders from Melanie Heinrich, co-op member at Port City Pottery & Fine Crafts:

MH Studios is owned by Melanie Heinrich. She creates a variety of gifts including granite trivets. The trivets come in all different shapes and sizes. Each trivet is hand broken into a special shape; the type of granite or marble will dictate where those breaks are made. All of the trivets are chamfered to ease any sharp edges, then sealed on top with a food grade sealer so food can be safely displayed and eaten from them. Elevated slightly with hardwood feet, they display beautifully on any table top. The bottom and sides of each trivet are sealed to bring out the granite’s natural beauty and to maintain the integrity of the stone.

To use the trivet, you can either chill it in the refrigerator or not. To chill the trivet, place it in the refrigerator or freezer for at least 2 hours. Stone will retain its cool temperature, making it perfect for serving foods, such as butter and soft cheeses. It is even suitable when chilled for serving more delicate foods, such as sushi and caviar! Clean up with soap and water - a snap. Do not submerge in water or clean in a dishwasher.

These beautiful stone trivets will set your table apart from any other. This is a perfect gift for the holidays, a wedding, anniversary, house warming gift, or birthday. Melanie has sold hundreds of these trivets and suggests a complimentary colored trivet to any existing counter top. A black trivet on a white counter top will show off any item that you display on it. Also consider displaying candles, cookies, scenting bottles, candies, use as a hot plate, cutting board; be creative, you can display almost anything!

Prices range from $35 to $90, depending on the granite size and grade.  See images at :
